This glossary provides definitions of key terms as they are specifically used within the TrustBuilder platform.
A
Activation code
Time-limited code that is used to register a device as an authentication method in TrustBuilder.
Administrator
Sometimes shortened ‘Admin’. A TrustBuilder Administrator accesses the TrustBuilder Admin portal to configure the tenant.
Administrator portal
Sometimes shortened ‘Admin Portal’. TrustBuilder graphical interface, web browser-based, used by administrators to manage a tenant.
API token
API tokens are used to authenticate and authorize API calls to TrustBuilder.

Application
Third-party Service Provider (SP) declared in TrustBuilder. It redirects users to TrustBuilder (acting as IdP) to begin the authentication process. More information
Authentication
Process of verifying that the user is well the one it pretends to be.
Authentication method
The mean users use to authenticate. It can be internal (maintained by TrustBuilder) or external (based on a third-party IdP). More information
Authorization policy
Set of authorization rules used to evaluate an authorization decision. More information
Authorization rule
An authorization decision (permit or deny) based on a condition. More information
Attribute
Information associated with a user profile, such as a username, an email address or custom data. More information
B
Biometric
Authentication factor based on a physical characteristics, such as fingerprint or facial recognition.
Built-in
Predefined and included by default in TrustBuilder, without requiring additional configuration.
C
Certificate
Digital file containing cryptographic keys used to sign, encrypt, or verify communications and tokens between TrustBuilder and external systems.
Custom
Element that is not provided by default in TrustBuilder. It is created or configured specifically by the administrators to meet their own needs (opposite of built-in).
Custom application
Application specifically configured to integrate TrustBuilder SDK (mobile or web). More information
Custom login portal
White-label login interface that tracks authentication request status through TrustBuilder APIs. It can also embed the TrustBuilder Authenticator Web SDK.
D
Device
Possession factor of a user, which allows the user to authenticate. It may be a mobile, a desktop, a web browser token or a FIDO security key for example.
Display name
The name shown in the TrustBuilder admin portal to identify an object.
E
Enrollment
The process through which an applicant applies to become a user of TrustBuilder services. It can be composed of the user provisioning and an authentication method registration.
I
Identity Provider (IdP)
Service that provides users identity information to TrustBuilder. More information
J
Just-In-Time (JIT) provisioning
Provisioning method where a user account is automatically created (or updated) at the moment the user first authenticates or accesses an application. More information
L
Logs
Records of events generated by TrustBuilder, such as authentication attempts, policy evaluations, and administrative actions, that administrators can view in the admin portal to monitor activity, troubleshoot issues, and support auditing.
P
Persona
Role, capacity or relationship associated with a user profile in TrustBuilder, used to apply specific policies and access behaviors.
R
Registration
Process in which a user registers an authentication method. More information
Can also be called “Activation” in user interfaces.
Registration policy
Policy defining parameters applied during the registration process for users. More information
Reset code
Temporary verification code used during a secret code reset process. More information
S
Secret code
Authentication factor based on a confidential code known only by the user.
Secure Token
A token embedded in a user’s device (possession factor) that enables authentication via TrustBuilder.
This term is only used for developers.
T
Tenant
A dedicated and trusted instance of TrustBuilder service. The tenant is created when signing up for TrustBuilder services.
Transaction confirmation
Authentication process in which the user should explicitly approve a specific transaction with a defined context before authenticating. The confirmation can serve as an element of proof.
U
User
An individual using an account in the platform to authenticate or access resources.
User provisioning
Process of creating, updating and managing user accounts in systems and applications.
